Our North

PIP World of Work Activities

our learner’s  visited the studio of Liverpool based contemporary artist, David Jacques. Dave explained how he works in different media; paint, film, animation, poetry and music. All of these elements come together in his latest project exploring the oil industry.

We then visited the Tate Gallery of Modern Art and the Open Eye Gallery at Albert Dock. The exhibition ‘North’ was showing at the Open Eye which looked at the contribution the north of England has made to global popular culture, specifically fashion, music and the club scene.

These are all employment fields that our learners can relate to and think about training or finding work experience via retail, design, IT, graphic art, printing, photography, music, promotion etc.

The learners were then asked to put forward their interpretation of the North using images they they would produce themselves using photographic images.
